Solemnity of the Assumption of Our Blessed Virgin Mary

On November 1, 1950, the Holy Father Pope Pius XII in his Apostolic Constitution Munificentissimus Deus defined the dogma of the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary. He said that the Virgin Mary “having completed the course of her earthly life, was assumed body and soul into heavenly glory”

This special Feast day has attracted lots of celebrations all over various dioceses and parishes in the world in honor of our Lady. In my Parish Our Lady of Seven Sorrows here in Navrongo, this feast was marked with the celebration of two Masses with the Basilica filled to capacity in both Masses. We had the various groups all dressed up in their uniforms to celebrate this great feast of our Blessed Lady. Below are some pictures of the congregation after Mass when they processed to the Grotto for the final blessing.

Final Blessing

After Mass was over, the Christian Mothers processed to the Rectory in honor of Mary as they continued to sing and celebrate Her Glorious Assumption in Heaven.
